How to Boost your Immune System

In the day to day life of a business owner, we tend to let a lot of simple things go by the wayside. We get caught up in our work and forget to eat lunch. We don’t take as many breaks as we should, or we stay up late and don’t get enough sleep. While some of us may be superhumans, able to cope with this on a daily basis, the rest of us mortals need some repose. But what if your day is just too packed? You’d be amazed how much better you can feel by ingesting the proper nutrients. Not to mention, a lot of them help stave off illness!

How much do you know about vitamins, and their effect on our bodies? Keep reading and you may learn something new:

Vitamin C

Vitamin C Increases production of white blood cells which are key to fighting infections. You need it daily because your body doesn’t produce or store it. You can obtain Vitamin C through foods like citrus, strawberries, bell peppers, and broccoli.

Vitamin D

Vitamin D allows for the proper absorption of calcium and phosphorus which we would otherwise be unable to retain as much as we need. It also facilitates normal immune system function and develops bones and teeth. Vitamin D can help to reduce depression, which is a huge component for workers over winter who may suffer from S.A.D. (which we have covered in a previous post). You can’t just eat the right foods, for maximum effect you also need to be in the sun, but you can supplement being outside by ingesting egg yolks, salmon and shrimp among other things.

By operating through an online payroll service and payroll services firm, you can also feel at ease knowing that all provincial and federal tax updates will automatically be applied to your payroll. No going back and making sure your team wasn’t paid too little or too much. This is also helpful for businesses with multiple locations across provinces as the rates vary.

Vitamin B6

B6 is the vitamin that helped you all the time as a kid but never knew it. It lowers inflammation and is vital to the formation of red blood cells. Our body can’t contain or produce it so we need to obtain it from foods like chicken, potatoes, bananas, chickpeas. This is why you need chicken noodle soup when you’re sick, to boost your B6 levels up!

Vitamin A

Healthy vision and ensuring normal immune function are critical throughout your life. Deficiencies in vitamin A can cause susceptibility to infections and delay recoveries. To combat this, pack your diet with meat, spinach, carrots, and mangoes.

Vitamin E

Vitamin E is a powerful antioxidant which helps the body fight off infection. This is very important, so make sure you are either taking supplements, or getting them through seeds, nuts, and avocados.

Zinc, while not often thought of as an essential vitamin, is necessary for the activity of over 300 enzymes that aid in metabolism, digestion, nerve function and other processes. It is essential for development and function of immune cells and is needed for your senses of taste and smell! Make sure you are eating a lot of mushrooms, asparagus, dairy, and shellfish to keep your zinc up.

Aside from packing in these essential nutrients, it’s important to take other measures in self care. While we all get busy, we need to make a conscious effort to sleep well, exercise regularly, drink lots of water, and take care of our mental health. If you can master this juggling act, you’ll always be feeling in tip top shape, ready to tackle your day.
